New Project = A New Beginning
And at the beginning of every project, it’s important to gain an overview:
Who is responsible for what?
Who has knowledge about the topics that are of interest to me?
Who do I need to inform about the project?
What is the current status of my project?
Four simple questions with one common need: To answer all of them, I must have a complete overview and be able to access it at any time.
If I’m not able to do that, the project has already failed!
The same applies to IT monitoring. In this case, the project is my service, which I want to monitor. It should always be operational and available to the customer.
To ensure this, I need to know who and what contributes to delivering the service—both the people and the IT infrastructure involved. Then, I need to know who is using the service, so I can inform them whether the service is fully operational or possibly only partially available.
Successful monitoring requires clean documentation of the services as a foundation. And ultimately, I need a tool that shows me the status of the service and provides all the necessary information.
If I have these prerequisites, I can gain a clear overview of my IT landscape and begin the process of optimization.
A clean, precisely prepared monitoring system helps me:
Make informed IT decisions
Increase customer satisfaction
And quickly find and fix errors in case of a failure
Simply put: I save
Time—by focusing on the right issues
And money—because I can quickly resolve outages
